This is an event you can not miss! TCA Chefs and their Students will work together to present a 6-course Pacific Asian Cuisine paired with different Sake for each course. Each course will be individually paired with different Sake that best compliment the flavors of the dish. Only the finest ingredients will be used! SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH:
ASIAN COOKING CLASS SERIES and ASIAN FOOD SYMPOSIUM

TIME: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
COST: $15 per person per class OR $50 ALL Day / Kid's Classes: $10 per class or $25 All Day

Professional Chefs will teach various hour-long hands on and demonstration cooking classes. During each class, you will not only learn from the masters themselves, you will also be sampling delicious cuisine! Final class schedule to be announced. Classes to include: History of Asian Cuisine, Royal Thai Cuisine, Vegetable & Fruit Carving, The Art of Tapanyaki, BBQ Extravaganza, What Makes Thai Food Hot?, Asian Cooking in the Eyes of the American Chef, Sushi in America, etc.

Kid’s Cooking Series: Classes are not just for the adults… Bring the kids too! There will be a series of cooking classes for the kids 6-12 years old scheduled while whiled the adults are learning how to make new dishes!

As you learn about Asian Cooking, there will also be an Asian Food Symposium in the lobby area where you can learn about different Asian ingredients like spices and different Asian vegetables. This will also be an opportunity to learn more about sustainable foods.

Iron Chef Semi-Final Quick-Fire Challenges: This day will also include the Semi-Finals for the Iron Chef Competition for the following day. Watch as the Semi-Finalists battle for the top spot to challenge last year’s Iron Chefs! The winner of Saturday’s challenges will go head to head with the 2007 Iron Chefs from Indian Palace on Sunday to determine the new Austin Iron Chef for 2008.



SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 7TH:
IRON CHEF COMPETITION and ASIAN MARKET
LOCATION: Texas Culinary Academy, 11400 Burnet Rd., Austin, TX 78758
TIME: 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
COST: $35 per person (Children under 12 are free.)



Who will be crowned AUSTIN’S 2008 ASIAN IRON CHEF? What will be the SECRET INGREDIENT? Come and find out! The competition will consist of two competing chefs supported by one Texas Culinary Academy Chef and four Texas Culinary Academy students. Each team will have 60 minutes to prepare three dishes using the secret ingredient which will not be disclosed to the chefs until the competition begins! Contestants will be judged by Austin-area food experts, media representatives, and local celebrities. While the chefs are busy creating fabulous dishes, you are invited to check out variety of items while you tour the Market. The Asian Market will feature 30 vendors specializing in Asian products/services or product/services sold by Asian vendors. The entry cost INCLUDES your food from the various food booths. This day will be filled with excitement! Don’t miss it!

A portion of the 3rd Annual Asia Food Fest proceeds will benefit Dr. Foo Swasdee’s favorite international and local charities—the Thai Tsunami Orphanages and The Arc of Texas—a statewide non-profit that works to ensure that all children and adults with developmental disabilities can flourish with their families and in their communities. Dr. Foo Swasdee owns SATAY Restaurant in Austin, Texas.

Thai Tsunami Orphanage— Every year, Dr. Foo Swasdee fundraises to help build an orphanage for Thailand’s youngest tsunami victims. Believe it or not, even though it has now been a few years, the people of Thailand are still working very hard to recover from the devastation in 2004.

The Arc of Texas is the state’s oldest and largest nonprofit, volunteer organization committed to creating opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to be included in their communities and to make choices that affect their lives.
