The kick-off event features an array of Asian flavors from some of Central Texas' most renowned Asian-owned and Asian-inspired restaurants. Attendees also have an opportunity to meet and try the food from the chefs participating in Saturday’s Iron Chef Competition. The events will take place in the stylish, dramatic Ventana Restaurant at Texas Culinary Academy, and will feature a cash bar with select wines and beers.

1st Period: 10:00am – 11:00am
Adult Cooking Class A1: Sushi
Instructor: Chef Take Asazu
Learn how to make sushi from the professional! Take Asazu, Owner and Chef of Deli Bento and
Sushi-a-Go-Go, will be returning to teach you how to make sushi. His class sold out so quickly last year, that we had to ask him to teach twice this year!
Adult Cooking Class E1: Thai Curries
Instructor: Chef Dr. Foo Swasdee
Learn to make Thai Curries. Dr. Foo Swasdee, Chef and Owner of Satay Restaurant and ASIA Food Fest Founder, will teach you the secrets behind making different kinds of Thai curry. Satay Restaurant has been open for the last 22 years.
Kids Cooking Class C1: Eggrolls
Instructor: Texas Culinary Academy Chef Instructors
Kids Cooking Class (ages 6-12). Kids can choose from their favorite ingredients and learn to roll classic Chinese egg rolls. Chef instructors from the Texas Culinary Academy will show kids how to fry and make a simple sauce for everyone to enjoy.
2nd Period: 11:00am – 12:00pm
Adult Cooking Class B1: Vietnamese
Instructor: Chef Tran Ngoc
Tran Ngoc, Chef and Owner of Tam Deli, will be teaching a class on Vietnamese Cuisine.
Adult Cooking Class D1: Filipino Cuisine
Instructor: Chef Tiffany Yao
Tiffany Yao, Executive Sous Chef at the Hilton Garden Inn and Eighteenth Over Austin, will be teaching Filipino Cuisine. Learn how to make:
Rellenong Talong, Grilled Stuffed Eggplant with Beef
This quick and easy dish can double over easily as a side to your meal or as the main entree. Rellenong Talong is full of flavor and healthy for the whole family.
Chicken Pansit
Chicken Pansit with rice noodles - One of the better-known dishes of the Philippines. Simple to make if you have some time to spare.
Halo-halo, "Mix-mix"
This dessert is a summer treat of shaved ice and tropical fruit to help beat the Texas heat. Definitely something the kids will have fun making with you at home!
Kids Cooking Class F1: Making Fortune Cookies & Asian-Inspired Ice Cream
Instructor: Texas Culinary Academy Chef Instructors
Kids Cooking Class (ages 6-12). Making Fortune Cookies and tasting Asian-Inspired Ice Creams! Chef instructors from the Texas Culinary Academy will teach kids to fold warm cookies into a classic fortune cookie. See how you can flavor basic ice cream with your favorite Asian Flavors of mango, lemongrass and green tea.
3rd Period: 12:00pm – 1:00pm

Have you ever wondered to to make
Chicken Tikka Masala? Well wait no more... Learn the tricks to great masala from
Rakesh Menhdiratta from Bombay Bistro in the Arboretum area.
Kids Cooking Class C2: Sushi
Instructor: Texas Culinary Academy Chef Instructors
Kids Cooking Class (ages 6-12). Kids will learn how to make sushi rolls and hand rolls using vegetables and shrimp. Learn exciting details on sushi rice, rolling techniques and the proper and fun way to eat sushi.
4th Period: 1:00pm – 2:00pm
Adult Cooking Class B2: Indian
Instructor: Chef Bali Singh
Bali Singh, owner of Clay Pit, will be teaching
Indian cuisine.
Adult Cooking Class D2: Tempura
Instructor: Chef Moses
What else can you Tempura? Come learn as Chef Moses, Executive Chef from Benihana, teaches you the secrets of making Tempura Shrimp, Tempura Vegetables, and Tempura Sushi, and Tempura Ice Cream!
Kids Cooking Class F2: Fried Rice
Instructor: Texas Culinary Academy Chef Instructors
Kids Cooking Class (ages 6-12). Learn to turn leftover rice into your favorite meal. Kids can choose from ingredients and learn the technique of making a classic fried rice.

Come and watch as participating Chefs go into a culinary battle in Round One of the competition. All participating chefs battle together in this “Wokfire”. The top chef in this round will move forward to the finals to compete against last year’s champion, Chef Chad Pritchard, for the title of Austin’s Iron Chef.

Kanpai! Learn everything you wanted to know about what Japanese call "the drink of the gods." Join Chef Graham Mitchell from the Texas Culinary Academy as he shows you the saké process from rice to water. Learn the classifications of saké and enjoy a tasting of several very different varieties of saké.
Please make your reservations by calling the Texas Culinary Academy at (512) 339-3850. All reserved tickets must be claimed and paid for from 10am-12pm on the day of the event at the Asia Food Fest. All unclaimed tickets after 12pm on the day of the event will be sold.
